Ride to Cure Diabetes

New Mexico was represented by five cyclists at the Ride to Cure Diabetes in Sonoma California! Tom Statzula, George Dial, Kenny Easley, Mike Seib and Steve Wilson rode as Michael’s Cycles Team. These five Riders trained for months, and all completed the over 100 miles of the Ride, never succumbing to steep inclines and the heat. The Riders continue to fundraise for a cure, and we at the New Mexico Branch are so proud and thankful for their outstanding efforts!

“Hello everyone,
On behalf of the New Mexico team that rode in Sonoma this last weekend let me please try and express my utmost gratitude and thank you to all of you that were there. Paul Aden the truck driver who picked up and delivered the bikes. To Amy Reed who meet us at the airport and saw us off on Sunday. To Mike Clark “the bike room guy”, you were the best. Thanks for the help and advice. Chuck Hodge, Brock Ryan, Mike Malekoff, Aly Levine, and Trish Patterson the ride and program you guys put together were great. It was very well run and efficient. The course was a little more than I (we) anticipated but we survived and are better for it. The hotel was great, the food was great, but the best part was the opportunity to meet and ride with so many wonderful people from across the country for one cause to find a cure for diabetes and put JDRF out of business. As a parent of a child with diabetes I so much appreciate everything you did this weekend. I know there are a lot more people who were involved ie: coaches, rest stop volunteers, local law enforcement and medical staff, and behind the scenes’ people that I did not meet or mention, I wish I could thank them also. In closing I just want to say that I look forward to next year and doing it again with more riders from New Mexico and across the country.

Thank you so much,”
Tom Statzula

Next up we have the Ride to Cure Diabetes in Death Valley in October. New Mexico will be represented by three cyclists, Jeremy Miller, Stephanie Decker and Terry Green. To learn more about the Ride to Cure Diabetes and to support our Riders, please visit www.ride.jdrf.org.
